UI DESIGN - CONCEPT PROJECT

Teaching Adobe Illustrator through interactive tutorials

Adobe Illustrator recently launched an in-app feature called Learn, in which the user can open a list of tutorials in Illustrator to get started with the application. To expand on this feature, I designed a concept for an interactive tutorial that could live within the Learn panel.

Tools used: Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, The Noun Project, paper and pen

*Note: This is a concept project and is not affiliated with Adobe.

What’s new?

Targeted tutorials

When the user selects a tool within Illustrator, the corresponding tutorials are automatically shown within the Learn panel. Each tutorial will walk the user through a list of actions to learn the tool.

Highlighted steps

For each step of the tutorial, the action item is highlighted within Illustrator’s toolbar. As the user clicks on the highlighted buttons and follows the steps, they become more familiar with the program.

Flexible visibility

By showing all of the steps in the tutorial simultaneously, the user has the freedom to skip ahead or repeat previous steps with a single click. The progress tracker at the top indicates their location within the tutorial.

This was a really fun concept to explore and I hope that it inspires others to design helpful tools and tutorials! While I’ve only used Adobe’s Learn feature in their Illustrator program, I would be really interested in seeing this concept applied to their other programs as well. The possibilities are endless when it comes to ways in which computers can interact with humans and how we can foster seamless communication.

If you have any questions or comments about my concept, feel free to email me at melmaceachron@gmail.com! I’d love to hear your feedback.
